Introduction

Azhagi provides the easiest and most user-friendly English-to-Tamil Key mapping. It is extremely flexible and not conforming to a rigid set of one-to-one rules. It is intelligent and changes according to the place where an English letter occurs and in what combination of other letters it occurs. Capital letters can be judiciously used to get the Tamil equivalent for any English text typed by you.

Special mappings are provided for 'f', 'ph' etc. Extended mappings are also provided.  Special cases to type words like ÀÄý¸û, ¿¡ý¾¡ý, ¦Àð§Ã¡ø etc. are taken care too. If you get to know all these mappings thoroughly, then you can use Azhagi at her friendliest best.

In this busy world, 'increase in productivity' is always the most welcome thing for any entity - whether it be an individual or company. Azhagi provides the same to the maximum when it comes to Tamil Transliteration - vide its supremely fast transliteration scheme.

What you can observe with the above text:

(in 1st line)

• The direct use of the commonly used English word 'dear' in the first line. there was no need for you to type 'diyar'.

(in 2nd line)

• The flexibility to use sri, shri, sree and even 'Mr', to generate ‚. You can capitalise the 's' and type as Sri, Sree, Shri also. Azhagi gives you ¼¡ì¼÷ too when you type 'Dr' !!

• The flexibility to type 'n' and always get 'ó' at the start of a word (as in naan, nalam, neenga etc.).
• The natural and intuitive aspect of Azhagi by which you can straightaway type 'neenga' to get '¿£í¸', instead of typing something like 'niingga' or 'nIngga' which is neither intuitive nor natural. Also, when you type 'niingga', you are typing an extra 'g' unnecessarily, resulting in productivity loss.
•                                                         
• There was no need to type capital 'S' in names like Swaathi and Saraswathi.
• Nandhu, Lakshmi, Raghu can be typed as nandhu, lakshmi, raghu itself. But they have been capitalised to show you that even when capital letters are appearing, the names did not get typed as '½óÐ', 'ÇŒÁ¢' and 'ÈÌ'.
  (note: there is an option in Azhagi under 'Preferences' menu as 'No L,R,N at start'. If you untick it Azhagi will consider 'L', 'R', 'N' as they are (might need them when you need to type couplets as below:)

• The use of 'oa' and 'ae' in kaeshav and goavindh. There was no need to use shift and type as kEshav or gOvindh.

• The use of 'ow', 'au' and 'ou' to generate ¶ in gowdaa, gaurav and mouli.
• The special mappings for 'f', 'z' and 'x' in farin, zaahir and rex.

(in 3rd line)

• The use of 'nk' in venky, 'gh' in payanghaL.
• The use of 's' in namaskaaram and dhaas. There was no need to type capital 'S' in both these cases to generate Š
• The way 'gn' and 'nj' have been used in gnaayam, lagnam and manjaL.
  (note: to get ¸Å¢»÷, you have to type 'kaviGnar')
• The way ÅñÎ has been generated. There was no need to use capital 'N' and type as vaNdu.
• how 'h' is silent in bharatham. how 'ndh' has been used in bandham. you can use 'th' instead of 'dh' and vice-versa. So, you can type bharatham as bharadham and bandham as 'bantham also.
• The use of 'nh' in maanhagaram. 'nh' generates 'ó' in the middle of a word without disturbing the word's phonetics. maanagaram and maanhagaram - both are pronounced the same way. Thats what we mean. As mentioned at the start of this document, Azhagi's key mappings have been so meticulously designed so that the phonetics compliance is not disturbed at any point.
• Words "dheivam, poi, kaai, thooimai, viyappu, viappu, valio, valikkaleo," show you the extreme flexibility of Azhagi. There was no need to type 'dheyvam, poy, kaay, thooymay' etc. You can see how 'ia' in viappu, 'io' in valio and 'eo' in valikkaleo got transformed intelligently. And, there was no need to type bhagavathy as 'bagavathi'
• Words "bhaghavathy, dhaas, ange, aadumo" tell you the power of Azhagi to convert words ending with 'y,s,e,o'. There was no need for you to type dhaaS or angE or aadumO.
  (note: azhagi has an option under 'Preferences->More preferences' as "Conversion for words ending with s,y,e,o". you can keep it unticked when you do not want this conversion to take place).

• The use of 'oa', 'oe', 'ae', 'dr' and 'tr' in koavil, kaettaar, nandri, patru, pandra etc. There was no need to type as nanRi or paRRu. You can also observe how intelligent Azhagi was, to generate ÀñÈ for 'pandra'.

(in 4th line)

• 'dr' and 'tr' behaved intelligently when it came to 'draamaa' and 'trip', as opposed to their behaviour in 'nandri' and 'patru'.
• The ease with which you can type any name or place name with the judicious use of capital letters as in paeTric, aanDru, sanJal and copenHaegan.
• The facility to type certain English words in English itself - as in meals, near, queen, easy etc.
