Tamil Typewriter Layouts

To change mode to Tamil Typewriter or TamilNet99 keyboard layouts, start Azhagi and click 'Preferences -> Keyboard Layout' to choose the preferred layout. You can also right click on the Azhagi tray icon and then move up the menu items to reach 'Typing Modes' and then select the preferred layout.

Note : The English text area (ETA) is only for typing in phonetic (transliteration) mode. Hence, you cannot type here after selecting 'Tamil Typewriter' or 'Tamilnet99' mode.

Tamil Typewriter - Traditional

To type 'ì', type 'f'(¸) followed by ';'(.)

To type '¸¡', type 'f'(¸) followed by 'h'(¡)

To type '¸£', type 'f'(¸) followed by 'P'( £)

To type 'Ò', type 'g'(À) followed by '['

To type 'Ü', type 'f'(¸) followed by ':' or '{' or '}'

To type 'ƒ¤', type '$'(ƒ) followed by '%' (¤)

To type '§¸', type 'n'(§) followed by 'f'(¸)

To type 'ì', type 'h'(¸) followed by 'f'(.).

To type '¸¡', type 'h'(¸) followed by 'q'(¬).

For A,S,D,Z,X,C,V and B, thamizh numerals 2 to 9 have been specified in place of the original special characters. This does not affect normal typing using Tamilnet99 keyboard layout in anyway.

Tamil Typewriter - Computerised

All examples for Traditional layout hold good here too. Some more below.

To type '¨ƒ', type '$'(ƒ) followed by ']' (¨)

To type '¨ƒ', you can also type 'i'(¨) followed by '$' (ƒ)

There is an option to interchange the position of 'þ' and ',' (comma) for the above layout. Click on 'Keyboard Layout' under 'Preferences' to see the menu option. User can make use of this option as per his/her convenience.
