Spirituality means destroying the animal nature in man and making him realise his divine consciousness. Spirituality implies that one should not develop egoistic pride on account of the divine potencies in man but utilise them for achieving spiritual strength. Spirituality calls for recognition of the manifold capacities manifesting in man as emanating from the Spirit and not from the mind. It means developing faith that all powers come from the Divine. Spirituality does not mean proceeding from the human to the Divine. It seeks to unfold the divinity in man. Spirituality does not mean passing from the mundane to the Divine. Spirituality means making man manifest the divinity in him. People today have the wrong impression that spirituality is concerned with the journey from the mundane world to the higher realm and vice versa. Because of this mistaken view, students today are confused about spirituality and it appears meaningless to them. Spirituality is the realisation of the role of the Spirit in daily life. ஆன்மிகம் என்பது மனிதனிடம் உள்ள மிருக குணத்தை அழித்து அவன் தன் தெய்வத்துவத்தை உணரச் செய்வதாகும். மனிதனிடம் உள்ள தெய்வீக ஆற்றல்களின் காரணமாக ஒருவர் அகங்காரத்தை வளர்த்துக் கொள்ளாமல், ஆன்மீக பலத்தை அடைய அவற்றைப் பயன்படுத்துவதே ஆன்மிகம். மனிதனிடத்தில் வெளிப்படும் அனைத்து சக்திகளையும் மனதின் சம்பந்தம் இல்லாமல், ஆன்மிக அகஉணர்வாக அனுபவிப்பதே ஆன்மிகம். எல்லா சக்திகளும் தெய்வீகத்திலிருந்தே வருகின்றன என்ற நம்பிக்கையை வளர்ப்பது ஆன்மிகம். மனிதத்துவத்திலிருந்து தெய்வத்துவத்தை நோக்கிச் செல்வதல்ல ஆன்மிகம்; மனிதத்துவத்திலேயே தெய்வத்துவத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தச் செய்வதே ஆன்மிகம். உலகத்திலிருந்து தெய்வத்திற்குச் செல்வதைக் குறிப்பதல்ல ஆன்மிகம்; தெய்வத்துவத்தை மனிதனிடத்தில் தோன்றச் செய்வதே ஆன்மிகம். ஆன்மிகம் என்பது இகலோகத்திலிருந்து பரலோகத்திற்கும், பரலோகத்திலிருந்து இகலோகத்திற்கும் பயணம் செய்வதுடன் தொடர்புடையது என்ற தவறான எண்ணம் இன்று மக்களிடம் உள்ளது. அதனாலேயே இன்றைய இளைஞர்களுக்கு ஆன்மிகம் என்றாலே குழப்பமான ஒன்றாக ஆகி, அது அர்த்தமற்றதாகத் தோன்றுகிறது. ஆன்மிகம் என்பது அன்றாட வாழ்வில் ஆத்மாவின் செயலாற்றலை புரிந்துணர்வது ஆகும். ஆன்மிகம் என்பது a way of life - வாழ்க்கை முறை.
