The Kauravas had all the instruments for victory - wealth, might of arms, allies, fanatic hatred of the enemy, kama! But, they all became dust, for they never paid heed to the higher values of Dharma; they did not equip themselves with the Grace of God, which is reserved for those who walk the path of humility and peace. Krishna was not their charioteer; they put their faith in lesser things. When plans are laid by the rulers for the uplift of the people and for training the children of the land, I want that the ancient wisdom of this land, still preserved and practised by the Pandits, must be consulted. That will keep the keel of the ship straight. I want that the knowledge embodied in the Upanishads should be handed down to everyone. Bhakti or devotion-directed education must take precedence over the Bhukti or enjoyment-directed schooling that prevails today in most countries of the world. Bhakti is the Asakti or yearning which goads you on to the spiritual discipline which will endow you with that Jnana. Have both faith and steadiness, and you will win. வெற்றிக்கான தன பலம், ஆயுத பலம், படை பலம், எதிரிகளிடம் தீவிர த்வேஷம், காமம் போன்ற அனைத்து கருவிகளும் கௌரவர்களிடம் இருந்தன. ஆனால், அவர்கள் உயர்ந்த தர்மநெறிகளை ஒருபோதும் பின்பற்றாததால் அவை அனைத்தும் தூசாகி விட்டன; மேலும் பணிவு மற்றும் சாந்தியின் பாதையில் நடப்பவர்களுக்குரிய இறைவனது அருளையும் அவர்கள் பெற்றிருக்கவில்லை. கிருஷ்ணர் அவர்களுடைய சாரதியாக இருக்கவில்லை; அவர்கள் தங்களது நம்பிக்கையை கீழானவற்றின் மீது வைத்திருந்தனர். இன்றைய ஆட்சியாளர்கள் மக்களின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்காகவும், நாட்டின் குழந்தைகளைப் பயிற்றுவிப்பதற்காகவும் திட்டங்கள் தீட்டும்போது, பண்டிதர்களால் இன்றும் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்டு கடைப்பிடிக்கப்பட்டு வரும் இந்த தேசத்தின் பண்டைய ஞானத்தைக் கருத்தில் கொள்ள வேண்டும் என நான் விரும்புகிறேன். அது இந்த தேசம் எனும் கப்பல் நேர் பாதையில் செல்ல உதவும். உபநிடதங்களில் பொதிந்துள்ள ஞானம் அனைவருக்கும் போதிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்று நான் விரும்புகிறேன். உலகின் பெரும்பாலான நாடுகளில் இன்று நிலவும் ‘புக்தி’ எனும் உலகியலான இன்பம் சார்ந்த பள்ளிக் கல்வியை விட ‘பக்தி’ சார்ந்த கல்வியே முதன்மை பெற வேண்டும். பக்தி என்பது ‘ஆசக்தி’, அதாவது ஞானத்தை அருளும் ஆன்மிக சாதனையில் உங்களை வழிநடத்தும் ஏக்கமாகும். பக்தி, சிரத்தை ஆகிய இரண்டையும் கொண்டிருங்கள், நீங்கள் வெற்றி பெறுவீர்கள்.
