Power of Unicode
Unicode* has very powerful advantages and as an user, its time you and/or your company switched over to Unicode computing, documenting and storing.


With UNICODE,

·    The Tamil text communicated by you is straightaway readable in Tamil by your recipients (using Win XP/2K or above). No need for them to install any font to read your text in Tamil.

·  In future, the Tamil documents created by you are straightaway available for further computing/processing on them, no matter what operating system or application is used for the processing. This way, the Tamil documents created by you are future- safe. There wont arise a need again to convert your documents to some other encoding.


Also, the capabilities of unicode allow you to achieve very advanced Tamil computing like:

·  Find & Replace in Tamil in MS-Word, Excel etc.                                        

·    Sorting in Tamil in Excel, Access, MS-Word etc.                         

·    File/folder Naming in Tamil

·    


(*) As already stated in the introductory chapter, Unicode is a character encoding mechanism in which every character is assigned a unique number, irrespective of the operating system or application. Each language's basic characters have their own distinct and unique character code values. What this means with regard to fonts is that it is now possible to have one single font (say all-in-one.ttf) encompassing characters of very many different world languages.
