How to Sort in Tamil (i.e. arrange in Tamil alphabetical order - either ascending or descending) in Excel, Access, Ms-Word tables etc.?

Note the following carefully at the outset:

1. Sorting in Tamil (arrangement in ascending or descending order according to Tamil alphabetical order) in Excel, Access, MS-word tables etc. is possible only if you do 'Unicode Tamil Input', which facility is available only in Professional version of Azhagi.

2. Using Azhagi, 'Unicode Input' is possible in Windows XP/2K but not in Win 9X/ME.

3. While Office2002 and later versions support Unicode typing, Office 2000 and earlier versions may not support.

If the above conditions are satisfied, then you can avail the "Power of Unicode" and do 'Sorting', 'File/folder naming', 'Find & Replace' etc. in Tamil too.

To achieve 'Sorting' in Tamil (i.e. arranging in Tamil alphabetical order):

·      Open your application (say Excel, Access or MS-Word) and start typing directly in Unicode Tamil (To know how to type in Unicode in Ms-Word etc., click here).

·      Once you wish to sort your Tamil data, select the data and click on the 'Sort' button of the corresponding application (excel, access etc.). That is all to it. Your data will be sorted (arranged in ascending or descending order) according to the Tamil alphabetical order.
